When you walk through the doors of Shaffo Physical Therapy there is one main goal in mind...to protect athletes with a proactive, practical approach to injury prevention. Shaffo offers a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation that is designed to enhance recovery and facilitate return to highest function in the shortest time possible. Evaluation
Each patient & sport are different and must be evaluated differently for the best possible chance of complete recovery. An assessment is done to pinpoint structural weaknesses and assess balance, coordination and flexibility. Results are analyzed to determine the injury potential of each athlete within their sport. Additionally results are incorporated into the athletes rehabilitation regimen to minimize risk of injury and enhance athletic performance. You want to heal quickly, Dr. Shaffo wants to make that happen.
Starting as a Team
Hard work and determination from both patient & therapist is necessary to get better. When you begin your physical therapy program, it may feel quite similar to working out with a trainer at your local health club. This is because physical therapy is similar to working out at the gym. In fact, much of the equipment you would find at a gym is also used at a physical therapy facility. Our offices are located in the Athletic Club at Penn. A well equipped fitness center for your use in recovery. The main difference being, working out at a gym is for healthy people, working with a physical therapist is to help recover from an injury.
Initially, physical therapy treatment to the patient with injuries does not involve exerting energy to regain strength. Beginning therapy may include the use of heat, ice, and ultrasound to relieve pain so the patient can move quickly into more active, and constructive methods of rehabilitation, like exercise. Dr. Shaffo will help you build your muscle strength in a safe way by using correct form, specific exercises and the right amount of weight.
Maximum Potential
Shaffo Physical Therapy wants athletes to reach their maximum potential. That means your rehab must include conditioning programs, strengthening, endurance, flexibility, neuromuscular stabilization, power building, speed, and skill training. For this reason, Dr. Shaffo will develop a customized, rehabilitation program specific to your needs to ensure your injury does not reoccur when your therapy ends.
Lifelong Impact
Dr. Shaffo will teach you how to develop strength training exercises and stretching as a life long habit as one of the best ways to prevent future injuries and to alleviate existing pain.
